Day 9 Noosa a National Park

SURFING LESSONS FOR ME!

Today was the best day of weather they have had so far since arriving in Oz! The sun was shining in the morning when they got up although it was still chilly! A & M were flying back to Sydney today and so were leaving around 9am. My two got up and made it down to the cafe (RAW) by about 8.15! Even on a Sunday morning the Main Street of Noosaville was busy already! They had coffee and lovely, thick whole grain toast and then went back with A & M to the Rimini Appartments to see them off! However, they did take some of their tea bags,  coffee and a toilet roll to use in their appartment!! (Typical Scots ehh??)

A&M realised that they could get them to take some of their things for them as my two are driving me down from here to Sydney and so they didn't need to try and get them on the plane! Still, it could have been worse....could have been furniture or something silly!

They gave my two a lift to Noosa and the entrance to the National Park there. They were going for a walk and so the help saved them some time. A&M waved as they dropped them .off thinking we. Have a week of peace before they hit Sydney!

By this time it was beginning to warm up! It was only 9.30 but already the car was busy and there were many people on the paths leading up to the park! They were.doing walk 4 on the map and we're looking forward to a good pace - despite, the heat!
They started from the B on the map and made it round to Lion Rock before turning back for the return journey!

The first bit of the walk was on a walkway and there were many people going and heading back from their walk. They had a good pace but stopped frequently for photos and more 'selfies'!! They have one of those silly 'selfie-sticks' so they extend out the pole and can take their own photos without having to ask others to do so for them! Sounds anti-social to me!

The walk takes you round the stunning coastline of the Noosa Heads and the views across the bay towards Rainbow Beach and out across the Pacific Ocean were stunning! At some points they saw Dolphins swimming in the sea close to the cliffs and a variety of other wild life including birds of all types, spiders (BIG spiders sitting in their nests) and a very cute Koala Bear on their way back! They also 'heard' plenty of animals scurrying about in the thick grass like bushes that ran along side the paths!

The views were great and every now and then you could see a path running down to the cliff edge or down to a small beach or ledge that you could venture down to if brave enough! The path soon became rougher and a sign said it was no longer suitable for wheelchairs beyond this point! They kept a decent pace despite the heat and were passing quite a few of the walkers - but there was a fair few posers who were running the route.....and liked to look as if they were really fit doing so! They really should have taken water with them but the forgot in the haste of leaving when offered a lift!

About half way along the route they came to Hells Gates which was out on a prometary and you could look back across towards Rainbow Beach or the other direction you could see down the coast towards Brisbane. Just along from here you could see the beach in Alexandria Bay! You could either stop and turn back here or walk down and walk along the long stretch of golden sands to the next prometary! Well....you guessed it....they kept going! They would their way down the path from Hells Gates down to the beach level! The beach was very wide and the sand was almost white! It was very warm by now and L enjoyed walking along the beach with no shoes on! Although it said that people should not swim or venture out into the water due to strong rip curls there were quite a few who were heading into the water with their body boards or surf boards. The waves were really not strong enough for surfing and it appeared you could walk really quite far out without being more than knee deep in water!

As the ventured along they noticed a young lady who was at the top of the beach....and was contorting herself into all sorts of shapes and position! They said it was something to do with yogurt although I'm really not convinced about that! However, she could do head stands, head stands with her legs going totally horizontal, and appeared to be able to support her whole body on just her hands and then put her legs through her arms and have them stretched out in front of her. I think she must have been missing some bones to be honest! But as they went past her legs seemed to be making some sort of message in semaphore!!! Say no more!

As they ventured on along the beach a couple were heading down to the waters edge with their boards.  Well....here was my chance to go surfing! I went over and asked if I could get a shot! After a couple of strange glances back and fore they said why not and the next thing I knew I was out on a surf board sitting on it and heading back into the beach! I could get used to this.....but I'm not sure if I fancy the dreadlocks to make the image more authentic! Also, there's nae many of them surfing in a kilt either! But.....at least I tried something new!!
Ehhhh....mind where your hand is dear!!
              Ok.....can I go out again!!??
               Oi.....come back......don't forget me!!!

After a bit more time they made it to the end of the beach and headed up to Devils Kitchen! The paths were not so clear here and so they decided to turn round and head back at that point! They. Had been walking for well over 1.5 hours by now and so it would take a bit of time to get back!

The beach on Alexandria Bay was getting a little busier and on the way back they came upon two ladies photographing themselves on the beach with the sea as a background! They were fussing a lot about their attire.....but to be honest the bikinis were so small it really didn't make much difference! Anyway they took turns taking photos as the other posed with the sea behind the! So.....were they sorting their Christmas cards early this year or just looking to update their Facebook page? I was quite keen to go up and ask for a photo...but the biggies just kept going! Spoilsports!

Once at the end of the beach again they had quite a climb up the hill to get back on to the cliff top! They did have options though.....they could have hailed the coast guard helicopter that was buzzing about for a lift or they could have used the emergency radio situated at the end of the beach and could have called for assistance! However, they bashed on and soon they were back on the cliff top making their way back to Noosa! But they still had quite a walk to get back to where they started and that was not even counting how far they would have to walk from their back to Noosaville and the appartment which was quite a trek on its own!

Almost T then end they found some people staring into a tree and there perched high up in the branches was a very young Koala bear! It was sitting in a eucalyptus tree and seemd non too bothered by the people walking about under him! The large spiders sitting in their webs also looked unperturbed.....but realistically who was going to go and bother them!

At the end of the walk they went into the Information Centre and got a leaflet with. Map of the park and a bottle of water! This kept the, going till they made it back into Noosa where they went for a cone of very nice ice cream and sat on the main beach as they ate it! Then they went off and walked along the main beach and then on to Hastings Street (the main tourist drag of Noosa) and looked at the shops before having a coffee! After this they headed back to Noosaville and that took them quite a while to get back!

By the end they had walked around 24000 steps and over 12 miles! Not bad in a very hot day!

They leave Noosa tomorrow! They start the drive from here to Brisbane and then on to Sydney! They pick up the car in the morning and already they are wondering what it will be! Let's hope for something good and nothing that's going to look daggy!! He is hoping for a fancy 4x4 or a sports car! Let's just hope it's not a Fiat 500 or they are goosed......unless it has a tow bar and a trailer for the luggage!
